Everything people ask first

Real questions, answered the way a friend answers them.

9:41
Black Reaper
Last night 11:04 PM

How big is it really? 🍿

Twelve feet across — 3.6 metres — standing on the grass. Everybody sits on the lawn and nobody has to see round anybody.

11:04 pm

How long does it take to put up? ⏱️

Two minutes. The blower runs the whole evening and holds it up — you peg the four corners and that is the job.

11:07 pm

Does the projector come with it?

Yes. That is the whole point — screen, projector, blower, cable, pegs, one box. Nothing else to buy.

11:10 pm

What do we watch on it?

Anything your phone or laptop plays. Plug it in, press play, sit down.

11:13 pm

Can we use it after Halloween? 🎬

That is most of the value. It is a garden cinema in June as well — it just happens to arrive in October.

11:16 pm

Will the neighbours hear the blower?

It is a fan, and it is quieter than the film. The sound comes off your own speaker.

11:19 pm

Where does it live the rest of the year?

Back in its bag, on a shelf in the garage. It packs down smaller than a folding chair.

11:22 pm

the whole street came over

One plug. Twelve loops. Nobody walks past without stopping.

Bought it for my son's birthday and ended up using it three weekends running. Twelve feet is bigger than it sounds — the kids all sat on the grass and nobody was craning round anybody. Two minutes to stand it up, and the blower is quieter than the film.

@thegardencinema_uk Third film night in a row. The street's children now consider our lawn public property.

We have used it for Halloween films, then the football, then a sleepover in the garden. It arrived for Halloween and it is staying out until it gets cold. Best thing I have bought all year and I am not a gadget person.

Arrived four days after ordering, well before Halloween like it said. My daughter has told her entire class. Nine children on blankets on a Tuesday. Worth every dollar.

Set it up on my own while the kids were at school — unroll, switch the blower on, four pegs, finished. I was expecting a fight with it and there wasn't one. It packs back into the bag small enough for the garage shelf.

The projector being in the box is the thing. I priced a screen and a projector separately and it was more for worse. Plugged my laptop in, pressed play, done. Picture is bright enough that we started before it was properly dark.

Honest note: you do want it properly dark. Before about seven the picture washes out a bit. After that it is fantastic and the whole back garden looks like a drive-in. The bag is the only cheap-feeling part.

Goes with this

Nobody decorates a yard one thing at a time.

A cinema in the back garden, this weekend

Order by October 20 and the first film is on before Halloween.

What it is

01Twelve feet of screen

Big enough that the whole street's worth of children can see it from the grass.

02Up in two minutes

The blower does the standing up. You peg the corners.

03Plays anything

Your phone, your laptop, a streaming stick. Whatever is on, is on.

04Not just October

It is a garden cinema all summer. It simply arrives in time for Halloween.
